Great Things and Comfort Zones

I though this would be a great first post. As I personally do not see myself as a writer but here I am getting ready to release my first book. I see myself as more of a teacher than a writer. As a teacher you lead from experience and with your own actions.

So I here I am stepping out of my comfort zone to do something I have never done before – write a book! I hope my willingness to step out of my comfort zone encourages you to do the same.

I understand I didn’t say step out of your comfort zone by over reaching or gambling on something that you know nothing about. For example if you always wanted to open a  restaurant but yet you have no experience running a restaurant and you want to get a loan of $100,000 to start it or take out a second mortgage to start this new restaurant, I would say you are stupid and crazy. First learn the restaurant business, the good, the bad and the ugly. Then once you have the experience you can step out of your comfort zone and open the restaurant. But then again if it isn’t your passion or their is no deep reason or love for cooking or serving others then you should not open the restaurant.

I have often thought of opening a donut store, and not just because I love donuts but because I thought it would be a cool business. But I would need to learn how to operate that type of business, the cooking the legal and health codes as to which I know absolutely nothing about. Now to go through that learning curve and risk a good $50,000-$70,000 without knowing anything about that business would be an absolutely stupid decision for me to make. I can’t go around losing that much money if it didn’t work out. Besides I don’t have a passion for making donuts, just eating them.

Read the book and it will go more into the statement I just wrote. You need to find your anger.

For me writing this book was just stepping out of my comfort zone, it isn’t going to put anything at risk. Maybe a few thousand in marketing and book publishing fees and tons of my time. Literally tons of my time! But I can afford to lose the money even if I do not make it  back. But you never know unless you try.

The reason I wrote the book is because I felt it might help a few people. So if I could help someone by writing the book then it is something I should do even if I do not consider myself a writer. And I’m sure somewhere in some forum or comment someone is going to mention my story telling or how I write as not being sufficient. And to me thats OK because I am stepping out of my comfort zone, I know I’m not a writer but I’m doing it anyways because I want to help others – I’m not going to not write because I’m worried about what someone is going to say. To hell with them anyways. Its easy to be a critic, especially on the internet.

A little about the book

The stories in my book are true stories. A few of the more sensitive stories I did change some names and a few locations as to not out anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable about sharing their story. Each story was added to help exemplify a point that I am trying to make.

I hope you enjoy the book and take something away from it that can help you in your life or maybe just see things from a different point of view.
